Grading
The last day of the 3rd quarter will now be March 13. This is only one week prior to its previously scheduled completion.
Teachers are asked to finalize 3rd quarter grades by April 10.
If a student has any outstanding work on assignments given prior to March 13 that he or she would like to have included in their 3rd Quarter grade, please work with the teacher to make arrangements to complete the assignment and have it included in the final average for 3rd Quarter. Make up assignments would need to be completed by April 8 so that teachers may finalize grades by April 10.
Once 3rd Quarter grades are finalized, end of year grades may be calculated. At their March 26th meeting, the School Board voted to average final grades in the manner that is most beneficial to students.
For our high school students, three averages will be calculated by GHS Administration and Counseling Staff and the highest of the three averages will be awarded to the student:
Option 1: Semester 1 Average + 3rd Quarter Grade ÷ 2 = Final Grade
Option 2: Quarter 1 + Quarter 2 + Quarter 3 ÷ 3 = Final Grade
Option 3: Quarter 1 30%
Quarter 2 30%
Quarter 3 30%
Semester 1 Exam 10%
For our elementary and middle school students, two averages will be calculated by teachers and the higher of the two averages will be awarded to the student:
Option 1: Semester 1 Average + 3rd Quarter Grade ÷ 2 = Final Grade
Option 2: Quarter 1 + Quarter 2 + Quarter 3 ÷ 3 = Final Grade
Teachers providing instructional materials electronically are asked to monitor student completion of the work that is provided for the reminder of the school year. They may provide feedback to students on the work to the extent that is possible. For example, if assignments are completed through Google Classroom, IXL or other such platforms, teachers will be able to see how successful students have been with the content and may provide additional support. However, students will not receive grades on assignments completed at home without direct teacher instruction.
